Definition

ISO-11179 Definition

A security model that grants data access permissions to users based on their assigned organizational role rather than individual identity, so that all users in a given role such as claims analyst, care manager, or data engineer automatically inherit the data access privileges defined for that role. RBAC is the standard access control model in healthcare data platforms for enforcing HIPAA minimum necessary access requirements and simplifying permission management as organizations scale their data user base.
