Facilities are distinct from individual practitioner providers in that they bill under Type 2 organizational NPIs and are subject to facility-specific credentialing, licensing, accreditation, and reimbursement rules. CMS maintains separate enrollment processes and fee schedules for facility providers compared to professional providers.
