Definition

ISO-11179 Definition

A measurement of the partial pressure of dissolved oxygen in arterial blood, expressed in mmHg, used to assess oxygenation status in critically ill patients. PaO2 below 80 mmHg indicates hypoxemia with values below 60 mmHg meeting criteria for supplemental oxygen therapy. The PaO2/FiO2 ratio is the primary oxygenation metric in ARDS severity classification with values below 300, 200, and 100 mmHg defining mild, moderate, and severe ARDS.
