Definition

ISO-11179 Definition

A laboratory measurement of a specific medication concentration in blood or other body fluid, used to guide therapeutic drug monitoring for medications with narrow therapeutic windows such as vancomycin, aminoglycosides, digoxin, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, valproic acid, and lithium. Drug level results must be interpreted in context of collection timing relative to dose administration with trough levels collected immediately before the next dose.
