The Dispense As Written code submitted on pharmacy claims indicating whether a brand-name drug was dispensed as prescribed or whether a generic substitution was made, with standard NCPDP values including 0 for no product selection indicated, 1 for substitution not allowed by prescriber, 2 for substitution allowed but patient requested brand, and 3 for substitution allowed but pharmacist selected brand. DAW codes are used in generic dispensing rate analytics.
