ISO-11179 Definition

A data governance feature that controls access to specific columns within a database table based on user role or policy, enabling organizations to expose a table to analysts while masking or restricting sensitive columns containing PHI such as member name, date of birth, or Social Security Number. Column-level security is used in healthcare data platforms to implement HIPAA minimum necessary access principles without requiring separate physical copies of tables for different user groups.
